The City Art Gallery “Boris Georgiev” is the municipal art gallery of Varna. It owns a significant collection of Bulgarian art from the early 20th century onwards, and most notably the largest collection of works by gallery patron Boris Georgiev.
The Art Gallery has been founded in 1944. Since 1988 it’s housed in its current unique building in a neo-Gothic style. Until then the use of the building was for the former Varna Men’s High School. Situated in the heart of the city the Gallery “Boris Georgiev” (received this name in 1999) sets out permanent and visiting exhibitions of various Bulgarian and foreign authors in ten of their halls. On the second floor are displayed examples of portrait art from the Dutch Golden Age. The gallery’s third floor regularly accommodates concerts, plays and readings.
